Beech Cottage, Beech Road

My home in Hadleigh

Thanks for the wonderful slide show on Wednesday 29th Jan 2014. We were there but forgot to mention that our dwelling ‘Beech Cottage’ in Beech Road, Hadleigh has several times been visited by people who resided here before us.
The visitors remember when it was owned by the Salvation Army and was a safe haven for women with children born out of wedlock. These callers stated that our Cottage/House was divided into separate rooms for mothers with their infants.
Sadly these children were adopted at – it would appear- about 3yrs of age. We were unable to confirm this previous use as the original documents were destroyed in either WW1 or WW2.
Our dwelling was built approximately 1901/2.
I am wondering whether the Salvation Army may have details of this?
