It was from one of the travelling air circuses that was visiting Belfairs on a field to the south of the woods. The flight cost five shillings each and was over Southend and Hadleigh. We were able to see Castle Lane and our house very clearly. The pilot, C. Scott, had just returned from a solo flight to Australia. A de Havilland plane similar to the one we flew in was later on display at the Southend Historic Aircraft Museum. I have only flown four times since that flight.
