A Royal Flying Corps plane visits Hadleigh

circa 1914, Chapel Lane.

Elsie, daughter of Alfred Hawks, (Hadleigh School Master) had a pilot boy friend who landed his plane on the Salvation Army field opposite their house No.40 Chapel Lane, to visit her. Elsie helped her father as assistant teacher in the Church school, later she married Tom Heathcote a farmer from Stock, and when they retired moved to Benfleet Road. They are both buried in the Hadleigh Church yard.
