Glyn Ridge, nephew of the three Keys brothers who died following the infamous road traffic accident in Rayleigh Road on 4th June 1928, brought in to the Community Archive office some contemporary newspaper cuttings. Here is part of the pictorial section (digitally enhanced), showing two views of the extraordinary funeral procession as it arrives at St Peter’s Church, Church Road, Thundersley.

St Peter’s Church had not yet been extended, so there would have been no room for all of this enormous crowd of mourners, many of whom would have been Christians from the Peculiar People denomination, which was very strong in South East Essex (evidenced by the number of vehicles attending).
Here is the article by Stuart Terson entitled The Keys Brothers.
