Then and Now of Hadleigh Corner

Comparison of Hadleigh Corner, 1937 and now (2023)

A “Then and Now” photo comparison of Hadleigh Corner.   The “Then” photo is particularly nice and is dated 1937.    “Now” in this case is 2023.

The main difference between the photos appears to be that the road in 1937 is pedestrianised and also of course the removal of the famous bus stop shelter.

Keen to go further back in time?  Here is a 1920 view.

Here is a link to this area when the “Good Companions” was active.

  • I can remember the shelter but it was glazed and the entrance was on the other side. On the left of the “Then” shot by the footpath was another bus stop. A bus from there to Pitsea Railway Station left there and was run by a firm called Cambell’s and I seem to remember the livery was yellow.
