In partnership with Hadleigh Heritage, The Hadleigh & Thundersley Community Archive presented a FREE slideshow at St James-the-Less from 11am on Saturday 21st September 2019 as part of its project “Hadleigh Shops 1939 to 1955”.

(As part of the national Heritage Open Days event, the church  remained open until 4pm, with a local history tour by David Childs, former Priest in Charge, at 12.30pm).

In the lead-up to that event, a display of some of the old shops was created on the Community Archive boards at the back of Hadleigh Library.

If anyone can provide any individual shop photos or stories that can be used in the project, please contact the Archive at our regular Library drop-ins or by e-mail.

Then we can together piece together the history of the old shops of Hadleigh.  Thanks!

The Archive regularly changes its display on the Library boards, in November 2019 the display included an historic map showing the Hadleigh parish boundary.
