  • Illustrated history talk by Bob Delderfield on James “Cunning” Murrell – St James the Less Doors open 10.30am for refreshments. Talk starts at 11am (sharp.) Afterwards, about 12.15pm;  official unveiling of Castle Point’s first History Plaque, celebrating James Murrell
  • Call for Entries to the Scarecrow Festival at Hadleigh Old Fire Station, High Street SS7 2PB
    12.45pm – 1.45pm   Free participation. Car Park available for deliveries. Judging to take place the following day at noon.   Full details downloadable below.
  • Heritage Open Day
    The Salvation Army Hadleigh Farm Estate, Castle Lane SS7 2AP   from 11am until 3pm. Exhibition in working barn on how The Salvation Army operated a successful farm, market garden and brickfields in Hadleigh as part of 19th century vision for social reform.  Musical entertainment provided by Salvation Army Brass Band between 1.00pm – 2.00pm  Admission to Rare Breeds Centre is free on this Open Day (donations welcome). Animal feed may be purchased (card payments only).

    SUNDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER   summary

  • Community Harvest Festival   10.30am – 11.15am
    Hadleigh Old Fire Station (HOFS) Parade Yard (outdoors), High Street SS7 2PB  Everybody  welcome. The Salvation Army leads the Hadleigh Community Harvest Festival Church Service. Traditional fruit & vegetable display (your gifts of tinned food, pasta, pulses and vegetables welcomed.) Brass band, hymn singing, thanksgiving & blessing of harvest, followed by refreshments. All food donations from the Harvest Festival will support the SA Castle Point Food Bank. In the case of inclement weather the Harvest Festival will take place indoors at the SA Temple
  • Cunning Murrell’s Community Day and Scarecrow Festival Hadleigh Old Fire Station (HOFS), High Street SS7 2PB    From 11.30am until 4pm Local History, Refreshments, Books, Gifts, Bric-a-brac, Art Exhibition, Scarecrows, Local Produce, Woodturning, Tractor. Event presented by The Hadleigh & Thundersley Community Archive in partnership with ACAVA
  • Cunning Murrell’s Scarecrows – Judgement & Award Ceremony   12 noon
    The culmination of the free-to-enter, open-to-all challenge to build a scarecrow; fun  for all the family, with a practical application!
