Launch of South East Essex Community Archive Groups

2nd April 2011, at Essex Record Office

It was lovely to meet the other community archive groups under the SEECA umbrella at the Essex Record Office on Saturday 2nd April this year, and also the sponsors who helped the concept come about.

Roy Swanston, committee member for the Heritage Lottery Fund, East of England, seemed to enjoy perusing the websites and display boards of the various groups and officially launched the project with a speech.  Councillor Jeremy Lucas, Cabinet Member for Heritage, Culture and the Arts, and Councillor Rodney Bass, the Chairman of Essex County Council were also very enthusiastic about our work and gave short speeches.

Miriam Stead, Head of Heritage and Arts, Essex Record Office, added her thanks for the Heritage Lottery’s involvement in SEECA.

Ken Porter, from the Laindon & District group, thanked all the speakers on behalf of the community archive groups, and presented Debbie Peers (Audience Development, Essex Record Office) and Sue Hampson (Essex Libraries) with bouquets for all their hard work and encouragement.

The photos give further glimpses of the day.  If you would like to see videos of the speeches mentioned, there are links from our sister site at www.benfleethistory.org.uk.
