  • Hi David, I gave a talk titled ‘A visit to Thundersley Hall and Susan Tonge, First Lady of the Bed Chamber’ to members of AGES AHA, a Hadleigh based history and archaeology club in February 2020. So it is lovely to hear from a descendant of Susan!

I don’t know if you are local, if so, I expect you have already seen the Grant that is in Essex Record Office, with her award; and where a full translation of the document (from Latin) can also be accessed. If not, I did have the Grant scanned; it can be viewed, in part, in Robert Hallmann’s ‘History of Thundersley and Daws Heath’ published by the HTCA.
