Diamond Jubilee Tea Party

Hadleigh Old Fire Station - 5th June, 2012

To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and forthcoming Olympics, Hadleigh Castle Rotary organized a 1940s themed Tea Party for about 50 retired residents of Hadleigh. The entertainment was provided by Charlene Jean.

Among those invited was Mrs Colvin, a true “Essex Girl,” who was about to celebrate her 103rd birthday!  She should have been accompanied by her “middle son” who is 80, but he was on holiday, so she came with her friend.  Mrs Colvin told me that she still runs “Hadleigh Retirement Club” and attends two other clubs. Longevity seems to run in the family; her maternal grandfather lived to be 101 – considering there were no antibiotics and childhood diseases were rife in the 19th century – what a remarkable achievement.

Above are some photos from the afternoon; it was a very happy occasion!
