In partnership with Hadleigh Heritage, The Hadleigh & Thundersley Community Archive is presenting a FREE slideshow at St James-the-Less at 11am on Saturday 21st September as part of its current project “Hadleigh Shops 1939 to 1955”.

(As part of the national Heritage Open Days event, the church is staying open until 4pm, with a local history tour by David Childs, former Priest in Charge, at 12.30pm).

In the lead up to that event, a display of some of the old shops can be seen on the Community Archive boards at the back of Hadleigh Library.

If anyone can provide any individual shop photos or stories that can be used in the project, please contact the Archive at the slideshow or at our regular Library drop-ins or by e-mail.

Then we can together piece together the history of the old shops of Hadleigh.

Thanks

The Archive regularly changes its display on the Library boards and the current display includes an historic map showing the Hadleigh parish boundary.
