Music Day at St James the Less
Saturday, 13th August 2022
Saturday, 13th August 2022, the regular “Beat & Beans” event was extended with live music in St James the Less from 10:30am until 3pm.
We were excellently entertained during the day by the following giving their performances free of charge:
The Yardarm Folk Orchestra;
Hadleigh Voices Singalong group;
Canvey U3A Ukulele group;
Graham Godfrey
Refreshments were available throughout the day, including cheese toasties at lunchtime, and homemade cakes in the afternoon.
Outside the church were shaded stalls of Bric-a-Brac and the range of books from Hadleigh and Thundersley Community Archive, where numerous contacts were made and local history information exchanged.
Off-duty musicians kindly provided impromptu jam sessions in the shade!
An exquisite colour-coded topographical contour map of the area was presented and explained by the AGES Archaeological and Historical Association as one of the outcomes of their All’s Well project on water courses and sources. This prompted discussions with visitors; including,
- the height above sea level of their homes,
- how LIDAR displayed places built since 1968,
- where water courses arise and
- the different soils encountered.
A hot day all round!
