Thundersley Church, an evocative postcard

Posted from Rayleigh in 1913 to Mrs W H Jones of Clapham Common

A postcard (acquired in May 2022) shows the distinctive broach spire of St Peter’s, Thundersley; starting from a square base carried into an octagonal section by means of triangular faces

On the reverse of this delightful picture is a message from a birthday girl with clear writing and expectations.

“My Dear Mum, I hope you have not forgotten my existence.    I expected to have a card this morning.   Auntie and Babe and I are going blackberrying this afternoon, the sun is shining quite strong, but it’s rather windy.

With love from all to all from Nancy”
