We saw a recent comment from Jim Coombs; and here are the pictures he mentioned.
Jim adds that: the road race was around three or four miles. It started in the {Crown} car park opposite the Kingsway cinema, turned down towards the castle, round the back and ended at the same place, back at The Crown. The cup was a silver plated trophy held for a year and returned for next year’s event.
You will note the same chap in both pictures. He is the club secretary. Jim recalls that the cross country team included Bill Sutton and – maybe – one of the Lowe brothers (possibly Ken).
Jim later ran in cross-country races for the University of London.

Many thanks Jim, that is very helpful. Keep them coming. Cheers Trevor
When I ran in the Christmas Day race, it was organised via a handicap and I won it one year. Don’t ask me what year though but Ken Lowes and his brother Fred were usually in the mix and nor can I remember any ladies event for the same day.
