Jollity at Daws Heath

Are you able to help?

Many of you will have bought the Archive’s latest book, Thundersley Postcard Memories, or perhaps you have received it as a present. We do hope you have enjoyed it. David Hurrell and I certainly enjoyed putting it together. Next time you pick up the book turn to page 103 and look at card 184 Jollity at Daws Heath.

Sadly, there is no information on the back of the card although one of our informers on recognising herself in the picture put the year as probably 1953, the year of the Queen’s Coronation. This suggested date has proved to be a few years out as Sally Fuller, a toddler on the front row, was born in 1953.

Unfortunately, we did not have the space in the book to record names of the people in the photograph. The dozens of people who volunteered to help us discover the names were unable to complete the list. Some faces in the picture remain a mystery.

Below you will find two copies of the picture. The first is a clear copy for you to study and enjoy. The second version gives every person in the photo a number and below it we have created a list including the names we now know. Some numbers have no name beside them and this is where you may be able to assist us to complete the naming. Perhaps someone can tell us what occasion was being celebrated.
