Mel South called into the 29th July 2023  Hadleigh Library drop-in with the Hadleigh & Thundersley Community Archive.  Mel once lived at Number 2, Plantation Cottages in Daws Heath Road and worked at the adjoining woodyard owned by Bob Banbury.

Mrs Browning lived in the other cottage in the pair until it was left and became delapidated.

Mel recalls the location of the collapsed WW2 auxillary unit camp in the nearby woods which used to have a corrugated roof. The area is no longer fenced in, as it is now regarded as clear of any armaments.

The splendid and evocative picture of the original Plantation Cottages {now demolished and replaced with a differently oriented single storey dwelling} was painted by Richard Sorrell in 1974. The Sorrell family lived in the Peculiar Peoples Church opposite  the site of the cottages.
