This is one of several parties held in Hadleigh to celebrate the end of WW2 hostilities in Europe. In Britain, the allied victory was announced on the evening of Tuesday 7th May 1945. The following day – Wednesday 8th May – was declared a national holiday, known as Victory in Europe (VE) Day, and parties were held all over the country on VE Day and over succeeding days.

This photo was taken outside our house (Num 58) where I was born 23rd February 1945, to Florence Day. My half brother was Reg Humphries (Num 9) my brother John Day (currently living in Tilbury) is (Num 52) not me as I was only three months old. Neither my mum or I were in the photo but were there so I have been told.
