After looking through many books and census records, success! The lower photo shows the location of the cottages where my family lived around 1929, to the west of Jordison’s.
[The top photo appears to show the shop to be W H Castell Shop Blinds. From electoral rolls, the Castells lived at this address from at least 1929 to 1931 and appear to have earlier lived at 8, Rayland’s Cottages in nearby Ash Road from 1920 to 1924. Has anyone any other photos of the location of Brittania Cottages? Early photos of this part of London Road (known at one time as The Broadway) appear to be rare – Ed]

The Castell family living in Raylands Cottages are not in our family tree. I can find no connection to them.
I think it was near the now Carpet Store; hopefully someone can confirm.
Was this terrace on the corner of Broughton Road?
