Miss Dorothy Dunger, music teacher of Thundersley

Can you help?

By Mary Armour

I am researching my family history and trying to find out a little more of my aunt - Miss Dorothy Dunger, who lived at Raymonds Drive in Thundersley and gave music lessons. Her father was named Albert and her mother, Mag. I wonder if anyone remembers the family at all. I've been advised that Albert was a keen model maker so he may have become a member of a local club regarding this. Any help would be much appreciated.

My wife had piano lessons during the early 'Seventies with Mrs Dorothy Cook, at Raymonds Drive. Mother-in-Law also went there a generation earlier. Between the two of them they could probably fill in a few blanks for you.

A few years ago I posted a request for information on my great aunt Dorothy Dunger. I had a reply from some lovely people including Eileen Gamble who took music lessons with Dorothy at her home in Raymonds Drive. Dorothy lived with her parents Albert and Margaret Dunger;  Eileen remembers that Albert was a keen model maker, probably of trains, and could have been a member of a local modelling club most likely in the 30s or 40s. Does anyone remember Albert at all?

Hi,

Dorothy was my Great Grandma (through marriage) we have some lovely photo albums of Dorothy's. She was a lovely lady and we have some very fond memories of her.

Hi Mary

As you now know, Dorothy Dunger became Dorothy Cook. I've got a 1946 album of student piano music autographed and self-addressed (47 Raymonds Drive) by Dorothy. Pop along to one of our H&TCA events sometime and ask me for it - I'd be pleased for it to find a good home. "Let's Play Hobbies" by Stanford King (Lawrence Wright Music Co.) - half-a-crown from Gilbert's Piano Shop. Southchurch Rd.

Hi Jess Edwards

Thank you for replying to my enquiry relating to Dorothy Cook nee Dunger - sorry it has taken me so long to reply.  I have only just seen your post.  I would love to get in contact with you and hear your memories of Dorothy and also wonder if your photo albums contain pictures of Dorothy's parents or great grandparents etc.  Dorothy was my great aunt and photos of her are very scarce!

Mary
