Finding Out About Local House Histories
The Archive is occasionally asked about the history of local Hadleigh or Thundersley houses. Sometimes the editors can tap their own sources of knowledge and give a prompt offer, but more often we are stumped and rely on others to fill the gaps, so we turn to the readers of this website.
Recently, we were able to add a photo to an article submitted about Scrub Lane. Click on this link to go to the article.
A number of such queries can be found in this “Can You Help” section.
For example, in December 2022, the Archive received two requests about local houses:
Kate had found out the original name of her 1930s house off Commonhall Lane was ‘Topex’. She wondered if anyone knows the relevance of this? If you can help, please visit her “Topex” article and add a comment there.
Similarly, Clare asked if anyone had a photo of a house called ‘Dallahousie’ at 177 London Road. Again, if you have, please add a comment at her “Dallahousie” article.
If you want to know about a local house, please feel free to submit your own article or contact the Archive by email at admin@hadleighhistory.org.uk
